About
Born and raised in basketball-crazy Lexington, Kentucky, I began writing at the tender age of six and learned the ropes by watching my mother, a registered dietitian, publish a dozen books and make a career out of freelancing. In between soccer games and swim meets, I "self-published" dozens of stories as a child, and I continued writing like a fiend through high school and college (including a particularly memorable persuasive essay in high school about why it's possible that Tupac is still alive).
Without ever having visited Chicago before, I made the decision in 2011 to move to the Windy City and attend DePaul University for my MA in Professional and Technical Writing. Much to my surprise, in between classes on grant writing and technical writing, I fell in love with running on the lakefront path and Chicago's emerging group fitness scene. I also discovered a new passion for pizza to fuel said running and fitness, but that's another story.
Inspired by the growing fitness community and the badass people I met, I focused my freelance efforts on health and fitness writing while conquering my day job as a digital marketing content specialist. From 9-5, I created content strategies for our agency's clients, managed their blogs, and followed SEO best practice to write compelling content that appealed to both humans and Google robots. From 5pm onwards and in the early hours before work, I tested out new fitness classes, researched nutritional trends, ran a few marathons, and attended various health and wellness focused events, all with the goal of learning more about becoming the best version of myself and writing about it so others could reach their goals as well.
Now, as a full-time professional freelancer, I've earned my Level 1 USA Track & Field coaching certification and my NASM personal training certification. I'm a founding writer and regular contributor to ASweatLife.com, Chicago's leading health and happiness publication. I also take on various freelance projects in the health, fitness, and wellness space, using my personal experience and SEO expertise to create content that will benefit your readers. I will die on a hill defending the Oxford comma.
Take a look around and let me know how I can help your health and wellness business reach readers with informative, relatable content. Or, you know, just message me with the latest recommendations of Chicago pizza joints - after all, everything in moderation.
